In recent years, I have noticed that car lots are relying a lot on balloons, inflatable Santas, monsters and apes to attract customers to their lot. Now, I am not a marketing person, but it seems to me that whom ever advised the owners to choose these options wasn't either.
If I was in the market for a car, driving down the road and saw a giant inflatable Godzilla in the parking lot of a car dealer, I am not going to slam on my breaks ("look kids, they have an inflatable Godzilla...they must have the best deals and service") and turn in...and I don't know anyone who would be attracted to a particular lot because of these "devices". Actually, it stirs up the opposite reaction. I would go to a lot that did not have any inflatable crap out front. Unfortunately, that is hard to do these days...at least where I live.
There is a street near where I live that has numerous car lots that all seem to subscribe to the same marketing advise...looks like a damn circus is playing all along the way.
This is just one man's opinion.

McDonald's Commercial
The other day I saw a commercial for McDonald's that got me thinking about how inteligent the general public is.
The product the commercial was pushing was an adult happymeal. Come on. An adult happymeal? What are they thinking? No one would buy that, I thought. A "healthy" salad in a box with a toy inside. The toy is what they called a stepometer. No one is stupid enough to go to McDonald's and think they can eat healty? Or so I thought. I guess the fast food industry has to change its image with all the Atkins craze.
Well, while eating at Burger King with my family, I saw a woman with one of those stepometers from McDonalds. On her tray was a huge burger, supersize frys and a large drink. I guess she felt that as long as she keeps count of her steps, the thousands of calories she just ate won't go to her ass. You don't have to eat healthy...just count your steps.
I guess advertising does work...on stupid people!

Calorie Conspiracy
Like probably most Americans these days, I look in the mirror and realize that I could stand to lose a few pounds. So, in order to start this quest to shed some unwanted baggage, I decided to start by watching and limiting my calorie intake. I started checking the nutrition information on the labels of food I eat or would like to eat.
Well, after a short time of it, I noticed something that raised my suspicions. Almost all the food I looked at had a calorie count per serving around the same? Totally different foods too.
Examples:
1 can of generic cola=150 calories
1 serving of frozen fries=120 calories
1 hotdog=180 calories
1 serving of corn chips=140 calories
1 serving of Cheerio's with milk=150 calories
1 serving (4 wafers) of sugar wafer cookies=150 calories
The list goes on and on. Is this just a coincidence? I think not. I don't belive in them. For some reason the food makers alter the serving size to get the calories to be aproximately the same. I know I am not that smart, but there is probably some kind of plan.
Maybe with some more research I can become more enlightened.

Sodas Raise Cancer Risk, U.S. Study Finds
I saw this link on The Drudge Report (www.drudgereport.com) today and just had to laugh.
http://news.myway.com/top/article/id/403988|top|05-17-2004%3A%3A20%3A04|reuters.html
Someone is always coming out with a study that shows something causes cancer or is harmful in some way. Once I saw a report that said that drinking coffee was bad for you and could cause health problems. A few weeks later, I saw a report that said drinking moderate amounts of coffee could be healthy for you.
I see these things all the time in the news and I usually ignore them, but when I saw one about soda pop, I had to read further. But, just like all the others, the study is not conclusive. This one said that the in intake of soda has increased 450% since 1946 and the incidence rates of esophageal cancer have risen by more than 570% in the same time frame thus soda intake = cancer. If there isn't concrete proof and not just a corolation, then why do they come out with these wacky theories? To scare people. A scared public is more conducive to manipulation. Just like the Liberals like to do as their standard operation procedure. They get people to doubt their own sensibilities and commonsense...hey, maybe these scientists (or liberals) really know better than me what they are talking about...NOT!

Same Sex Marriage
I have seen in the news the past two days a number of stores about same sex marriage and frankly I am tired of the subject. Here in town, a bus full of same sex couples traveled around the valley looking for a court that would issue them a marriage license but alas, they came up empty handed. While I don't believe in same sex marriage, I don't think that the government, local or otherwise, should be involved with approving or disapproving marriages. That should be left to religious institutions.
What the government should do is issue civil union contracts that act like marriage licenses do today and give legal status to the couple. That way anyone who wants to enter into a civil union can do so and can get married in any manner they see fit. While I might not enjoy the idea of guys getting married to each other, it is not my business or the govenrment's business as long as they are willing and of legal age and sound mind...forget the sound mind part.
Same sex marriage is not news. It has been around for a long time and the news agencies should keep it out of the news and put it where it belongs...in the special interest section...the last page at the most.
And that is one man's opinion.

This is my first post. I am new to this so it will probably take me a while
to get used to this so bear with me. I am also not the best speller in the
world, so there will be occational misspelled words...sometimes
more than others.
